Language Diversity in AI

The use of language-based AI technologies has grown rapidly in recent years.

They have integrated into institutional and corporate communication and we use them for work, for everyday plannng and decision-making, and even emotional support.

Despite their widespread use, most of these technologies, including Large Language Models (LLMs), are disproportionately trained on (American) English and tend to underperform across many other languages.

This raises critical questions: - Whose voices, knowledge systems, and ways of thinking are represented, and whose are left behind? - How can AI be developed in ways that are inclusive, sustainable, and accountable? - What roles should education, industry, and policy play in shaping AI literacy and governance? These are complex questions that need the diversity of minds and opinions in our communities.
