From the ferry at Songesand, the trail traverses very rough and boulder-strewn hillsides just above the fjord for 2km before ascending the hill to the old farm at Bakken. From here the trail is a much more pleasant forest route.

From Bakken, the trail takes you to the small cabin village of Bratteli before beginning the steady ascent up toward Preikestolen. The views during the climb are outstanding.

After turning inland from the fjord, the trail passes the beautiful Skogavatnet lake, where several opportunities for camping exist. Next, the trail climbs the final 200m to reach the junction with the heavily used trail to Preikestolen.

From here, my route follows the popular trail to Preikestolen, utilizing the "Cliff Trail" to reach the point and returning on the "Hill Trail" before descending the 3.5km to the Preikestolehytte tourist center.
